How I Learned to Cook from Scratch: A Beginner’s Guide
I used to think cooking from scratch was some mysterious art passed down through generations, requiring the hands of a seasoned chef to perfect. Like many people, I was glued to my microwave and trusted prepackaged meals more than my own intuition. But one day, that changed—and it wasn’t because I suddenly became a culinary prodigy. It happened slowly, through trial, error, and the realization that cooking from scratch is as much about the journey as it is about the food.
Here’s how it all started and why you should give it a try too. Spoiler alert: If I can do it, anyone can!
The “Why” Behind It All
For me, the desire to cook from scratch wasn’t about trying to be fancy. It was about health, simplicity, and—let's be honest—saving some cash. I was tired of eating the same frozen meals and tired of not knowing exactly what was going into my body. I wanted more control over my food, and I thought, “How hard could it be?”
That’s how I decided to begin. I wasn’t out to make Michelin-star dishes. I just wanted to stop living on instant noodles and greasy takeout.
